Stephanie Valentin, MA, LCPC, CRADC, NCC

Stephanie Valentin is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who earned her master’s degree in clinical counseling at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Stephanie earned her bachelor’s degree at Illinois Wesleyan University with a major in psychology and minor in Hispanic studies. Additionally, Stephanie has earned an international certificate in drug and alcohol abuse counseling. Stephanie is a National Certified Counselor that has met national standards for the counseling profession. Stephanie has over 8 years of experience working with tweens, adolescents, and adults in outpatient/intensive outpatient community healthcare settings, residential treatment settings, and schools.

Stephanie believes that a strong therapeutic relationship is key to any successful treatment outcome; she prefers to build counseling relationships, rather than focusing on brief interventions. Stephanie is guided by the belief that everyone is capable of relieving themselves of their mental health and/or substance abuse concerns and that the therapist serves as a guide on that journey, rather than the expert. Stephanie chooses to utilize the following modalities, depending on the needs of her clients: Motivational interviewing, harm reduction, Exposure Response therapy, expressive therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-centered therapy, and trauma-focused therapy.

“When we flee our vulnerability, we lose our full capacity for feeling emotion.” Quote by Gabor Maté (Doctor of Addiction). Stephanie strongly believes that the most growth occurs when an individual faces their own pain and discomfort and she is ready to support those willing through that process.

When not working, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family, walking her doggies and volunteering in the community, hoping to inspire others to do the same.
