Jo Ellen Wright, MA, LCPC, NCC

Jo Ellen is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois.  She earned her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2019.  Jo Ellen has been providing individual, group, and family counseling services in both inpatient and outpatient settings since 2019.  Her work focuses on utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) while also incorporating trauma focused strategies to assist with mental health stabilization. Jo Ellen’s experience with the child welfare system has allowed her opportunities to work with children, adolescents, adults, and families with a focus on improving healthy relationships, keeping families intact, and helping individuals thrive.

As a mixed race, LBGTQIA+ identifying woman, Jo Ellen is motivated to assist clients that struggle with the ideas of a binary world. She believes that many people feel unrecognized, marginalized, and generally like they “don’t fit in,” which can lead to a variety of personal issues including trauma, depression, anxiety, and unhealthy relationships. Jo Ellen believes that for someone to grow and thrive, they must be valued as their true selves and through individually customized client-centered treatment she strives to work with people of all ages to empower them and maximize their contentment. She uses empathy, collaboration, and a willingness to learn to help those along their journey of better understanding themselves and their experiences.

She has a special interest in addressing concerns related to depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, trauma, LGBTQIA+ issues, cultural issues, women’s issues, building healthy relationships, codependency, family conflict, self-esteem, life transitions, and daily stressors.

When Jo Ellen is not working, she enjoys theatre, reading, and (winning) board games as well as spending time with her friend based family and two cats.
