Hilary Gruber, MA, LPC

Hilary is a Licensed Professional Counselor with specialized training in Art Therapy. She has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in art and traditional talk therapy. Hilary’s areas of specialization include anxiety and mood disorders, autism, developmental disabilities throughout the lifespan, and trauma.

Hilary is a creative and energetic presence; she brings her genuine self into her practice to help clients feel safe and comfortable with self-exploration and making changes. As an art therapist, Hilary integrates art-making into the therapeutic relationship. Through art, Hilary helps her clients to explore their thoughts and feelings, and process topics that may be hard to discuss verbally. She also likes to work inter-modally integrating music and movement into her practice.

While making art can be intimidating for some, Hilary provides a safe environment to both explore materials and build confidence.  With that, she does not mandate art-making in session and is skilled as a traditional talk therapist as well.

Hilary earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, and a Master’s degree in Counseling and Art Therapy from Adler University in Chicago, IL. Before joining North Shore Family Services, Hilary worked in an inpatient psychiatric hospital providing Art Therapy services.

When she’s not working, Hilary enjoys baking, singing, reading science fiction, and hanging out with her cat, Brooklyn.
