Charlotte Hurst, MA, LPC

Charlotte is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Illinois. She received her Master’s in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling in Portland, OR. Her experiential background is in Play Therapy, in both in-home and clinical settings. Charlotte began her work in this field utilizing alternative play-based therapy for Autistic children, but has since gained experience with more diverse and neurotypical populations of kids.

Charlotte focuses on a whole-brain and trauma-informed approach that emphasizes nervous system regulation and co-regulation, and often pulls from other approaches such as DBT and Narrative Therapy. She believes that play is a child’s most effective means of processing, worldview building, healing, and bonding.

Charlotte strongly believes that everyone is the expert of their own experience, and strives to work with compassion and empathy to meet her clients where they are at. She believes that families seek counseling for a variety of reasons, but often benefit from a family-systems approach that addresses all moving parts and relationship dynamics. For this reason, she values collaborating with caregivers and parent coaching.

Charlotte believes that healing occurs within an individualized approach where the client feels valued, secure, and regulated, and this is often the goal of her work.  She has a special interest and background in working with neurodivergence, trans youth, anxiety and depression, trauma, domestic violence, and family conflict.

In her free time, Charlotte enjoys any and all outdoor activities, spending time with the many pets that she has (and talking about her pets), and creative projects such as painting, sewing, and making rugs.   As a Wilmette native, Charlotte has years of involvement within the community of Chicago and its suburbs.
